Maple Leaf

The Maple Leaf or Gold Maple Leaf was issued by the prestigious Royal Canadian Mint in 1979. The idea was to counter the growing popularity of the Krugerrand on the international market. Moreover, they have one thing in common: they have the same designer. From 1979 to 1982, the Maple Leaf was struck in a purity of .999 pure gold. Subsequently, the Royal Canadian Mint decided to push the gold purity to .9999. Since 2013, the year of striking has been laser engraved in a mini maple leaf on all Maple Leafs. In 2015, another security feature was added, fine lines appear on the background of the maple leaf. It is a must for serious investors and collectors. Due to its composition of .9999 purity gold, it is more sensitive to conservation than the Krugerrand or 22 carat gold coins. Protection is recommended. Metal 24 has a protective case for this purpose.
