Chinese Panda
The one-ounce Panda was minted from 1982 and is graded at 999 thousandths without any face value. In 1983, the one-ounce coins were converted to a value of 100 yuan and which was increased to 500 yuan in 2001.
On the obverse is the Temple of Heaven and on the reverse is the very popular panda which changes every year. In 1995 and 1996, pandas of beautiful proof quality and limited to 2000 pieces were issued which gives them a higher value on the market. The one-ounce Panda is available in 1 half, 1 quarter and one tenth of an ounce.
In 2016, the China Gold Coin Corporation (CGCC) decided to replace the Anglo-Saxon system "troy ounce" with the metric system of "grams". From now on, the 1-ounce Panda will be the 30-gram Panda with the accompanying variations such as the 15-, 8-, 3- and 1-gram Pandas.
