Queen's Beasts

It was in 2016 that the Royal Mint struck the first coin with the effigy of the lion which has represented the kingdom of England for centuries. The obverse is the focal point of Queen Beasts coins. The coin series is based on the original "Queen's Beasts" sculptures. These are real plaster sculptures created by James Woodford for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. Shown are the 11 heraldic animals showing the Queen's family tree. The Royal Beasts lined Westminster Abbey for the Queen's coronation. Gold coins have a fineness of 999.9 (24k)
